Common mistakes in the exam
As a teacher, I have come across a variety of common mistakes that students make during board exams. Here are some examples:
- Not utilising the reading time fruitfully.
- Writing in paragraph form instead of using bullet points.
- Avoiding pictorial/diagrammatic illustrations.
- Forgetting to label diagrams and figures.
- Writing more than required or exceeding the word limit.
- Not going for an organized approach.
- Not drawing the diagrams.
- Studying at a stretch without taking breaks.
- Lack of writing practice.
- Not reading the question paper properly and waiting for the last minute to start answering.
- Last-minute mugging up.
- Forgetting to write the working formula of the chemical reaction at hand.
- Writing improper units without checking their compatibility.
It is crucial to thoroughly examine the question paper, develop strategies to present answers in the most optimal manner, and efficiently manage time. Additionally, students should practice expressing their answers in bullet points, incorporate relevant diagrams and figures when applicable, and accurately label them. By solving sample papers and reviewing past years' papers, students can enhance their time management skills and prevent errors.
